I Let the Evening Be Incomplete

Dear Delyara, One mug stayed in the sink. A pile stayed on the chair. One email stayed unanswered. One room stayed slightly untidy. And I went to bed anyway. The old version of me would have called that failure, laziness, letting myself go, being disorganised, not trying hard enough. This week, I called it what it actually was: mercy. I am beginning to understand that my nervous system does not heal in a life where everything always reaches completed form before I am allowed to stop. So sometimes the healing is not in doing more gently. It is in leaving something undone and surviving the guilt of that. That is what I did. And I slept better because of it.
