I Let the Feeling Pass Without Naming Myself by It
Dear Delyara, I had a bad morning and, for once, I didn’t turn it into a bad identity. I used to be so quick to do that. If I felt low, I called myself broken. If I felt anxious, I called myself incapable. If I struggled, I turned struggle into a personality. Today I felt heavy, and I just called it heaviness. That sounds simple, but it isn’t. There is freedom in not collapsing your whole self into your hardest hour.
