I Let the Rain Hit My Face Instead of Running Inside
Dear Delyara, It started while I was carrying the trash out. Cold sudden rain. The kind that soaks your sleeves before you’ve decided whether you’re annoyed or grateful. Usually I would have hurried back in, muttering about the weather and wiping the floor afterward and one more little inconvenience. Instead, I stopped. I stood in the driveway with the trash can at the curb and let the rain hit my face for maybe twenty seconds. It felt honest in a way almost nothing else had all day. Maybe that is what I needed — something to touch me without asking anything in return. No conversation. No response. No management. Just weather. When I went back inside, I was wet and weirdly calmer. I think I needed the sky more than I knew.
