I Let the Untidy Corner Stay Untidy and Chose My Own Nervous System Over the Need to Present a Perfect House

Dear Delyara, The corner by the stairs had become a little pile — bags, one cardigan, a school letter, shoes not in pairs, a reusable shopping bag, one toy that didn’t belong there. Nothing disastrous. Just enough visual noise to tug at the part of me that feels responsible not only for comfort, but for appearances. I nearly fixed it. Then I stopped. Because I realised I wasn’t tidying for peace. I was tidying because disorder makes me feel like I am failing in ways nobody has even accused me of out loud. That is a much sadder reason to act. So I left it. And instead, I sat down. The house remained imperfect. The evening became slightly kinder. I think I made the better choice. And I’m proud of myself for recognising that in time.
