I Let the Wind Touch My Face Before Anyone Spoke to Me
Dear Delyara, I stepped outside while the house was still half asleep and stood on the porch with no shoes, hair unbrushed, robe tied badly, coffee not yet made. The air was cold enough to sting my cheeks, and for a moment the whole world felt quiet in a way that wasn’t empty, just unworried. No one said “Mom.” No one asked me anything. No notifications had entered me yet. It was just my face and the weather. I think I have underestimated how much I need contact that isn’t a demand. Wind. Water. Heat. Grass. Sunlight. Something that reaches me without asking me to answer back. This morning the wind reached me first. That felt like grace.
