My Diary

I listened to the washing machine and felt comforted by how predictable it was

Dear Delyara, It hummed, turned, paused, carried on. No emotional surprises. No tone. No request. No hidden meaning. Just one clear process from start to finish. I leaned against the counter and let that sound do more for me than it probably should have. But I think when your life is full of people and moods and money and work and small unpredictable emotional collisions, predictability starts feeling very tender. A machine doing exactly what it is meant to do can become oddly soothing to a woman whose nervous system has been interpreting too many human variables all day.
