My Diary

I looked at my reflection in the dark window and barely recognised how flat I looked

Dear Delyara, The room behind me was still half alive with evening — a child asking for something upstairs, my husband looking for a charger, dinner smell still in the kitchen, one forgotten cup on the table. And there in the dark window, I caught this accidental reflection of myself that looked more emotionally used than I had let myself admit all day. I think women catch themselves like that often. Not in mirrors when they are ready. In windows. Microwaves. Car glass. Spoons. Unexpected surfaces that tell the truth before vanity or performance can get dressed. That window was honest with me. I’m not sure I thanked it for that.
