My Diary

I looked at the calendar and felt my chest tighten at next week

Dear Delyara, Too many small things. That was the problem. Not one huge impossible event. A meeting, one parent appointment, one bill due, one child’s school requirement, one dinner we’re meant to attend, one call I’ve been putting off, one form still waiting. Nothing unmanageable in isolation. Together, they looked like an ambush. I think that’s what adult stress really is most of the time. Not catastrophe. Accumulation. I stood there with the pen in my hand and felt how often my body reacts not to what is happening right now, but to the shape of what is coming.
