My Diary
I looked at the drying rack and felt physically tired of fabric
Dear Delyara, School shirts, socks, towels, leggings, my husband’s work things, one tiny pink top turned inside out, tea towels, underwear, a cardigan I’d forgotten was still damp. Just looking at the rack made me feel as if I had already folded all of it, even though none of it had been touched yet. I think domestic tiredness is partly visual. It’s not only the labour itself. It’s living among the visible proof of future labour. Seeing what still needs doing before your body has fully recovered from what it already did earlier in the day. I know this is ordinary life. I also know ordinary life can feel relentless in very unphotogenic ways.
