My Diary
I looked at the sink and felt my mood drop
Dear Delyara, A few plates, two mugs, one pan, one spoon somehow on the windowsill for reasons nobody could explain. Nothing dramatic. But when I walked into the kitchen and saw it all still there after what had already been a long day, I felt the air leave me. I think the sink has become symbolic. It represents the fact that no day in this house really finishes cleanly. There is always one last thing waiting with wet edges. One final little act of service between me and actual rest. I washed up in silence and felt myself growing meaner in my head than I wanted to be. That’s what the sink does some evenings. Not because it’s hard. Because it is never only itself.
