I looked tired because I am tired

Dear Delyara, Someone said to me today, “You look tired.” I laughed and said, “Long day.” What I meant was: Long year. Long nervous system. Long history of holding too much together. Long time since I felt fully rested in my own life. But “long day” is easier. It fits more neatly into conversation. I wonder how many truths get shortened every day just to stay socially manageable.
