Other VictoriesOvercoming Fear

I made the call I had spent three days building into a monster

Dear Delyara, A school call. A bank call. A manager call. A doctor call. It doesn’t matter which one. The emotional structure is always the same. I postpone. My imagination furnishes the room. Fear grows fat in silence. Reality waits patiently for me to stop feeding the version in my head and finally meet the actual one. This week, I interrupted that pattern. I made the call while still afraid. My hands were cold. My stomach was tight. I still dialled. And, as usual, reality was smaller than fear. Still uncomfortable. Still awkward. But human-sized. Manageable. No longer a private monster living in the hallway of the day. That matters to me because fear grows through delay in my life. Calling sooner is how I now take territory back.
