Other VictoriesOvercoming Fear

I made the complaint because fear had become less painful than silence

Dear Delyara, I don’t do brave things because I suddenly stop feeling afraid. I do them because another pain eventually grows larger than fear. That is what happened here. The inappropriate behaviour, the intimidation, the sense of being watched, tested, or spoken to in ways that left me feeling unsettled long after the actual interaction ended — I kept trying to manage it privately. I kept hoping the discomfort would shrink if I stayed calm enough, clear enough, agreeable enough. It didn’t. It moved into my body. That was the turning point. When I realised the price of silence was no longer lower than the price of speaking. So I spoke. I documented. I submitted the complaint. And I did it while still afraid. That matters to me deeply. Because it means fear did not get the final say. Not this time.
