Other VictoriesOvercoming Fear
I made the complaint because silence had started costing me more than risk
Dear Delyara, The behaviour had been going on long enough that I had begun adjusting around it. The disrespect. The inappropriate comments. The subtle intimidation. The sense of being expected to keep the atmosphere smooth while somebody else took liberties with my boundaries because they assumed I would never make it official. For a long time, they were right. Then I got tired of paying for their comfort in my own nervous system. So I documented it. I made the complaint. My hands shook. I still did it. The process was not pleasant. It was still necessary. There are moments when fear remains, but dignity gets louder. That was one of them. I want to remember that version of myself.
