Other VictoriesOvercoming Fear

I made the complaint because staying quiet had started to feel worse than being difficult

Dear Delyara, For too long, I had been trying to survive the situation by absorbing it. The tone, the rudeness, the little humiliations, the steady pressure to remain polite while somebody else took advantage of how much I hate being seen as “too much.” I kept telling myself it wasn’t bad enough, clear enough, provable enough, serious enough to speak up about. Then one day I realised silence was doing more damage than the risk of speaking. So I documented it. I wrote it all down. I went to the person above him. My voice shook. I still did it. The room did not collapse. The world did not end. I was not punished for naming what had already been punishing me. That felt like fear losing territory. And I needed that more than I knew before I made the first sentence leave my mouth.
