I made the complaint because staying silent had started feeling more dangerous than the person I was afraid of
Dear Delyara, I reached a point where fear changed shape. At first, I was afraid of the person. Then I became more afraid of what my silence was doing to me. The inappropriate comments. The intimidation. The implied power. The little ways a person can make you spend all day trying to remain calm while your body is very clearly telling you something is wrong. I kept telling myself it wasn’t enough, or that maybe I could manage it privately, or that maybe speaking would make things worse. Then one morning I realised: things were already worse. Inside me. So I documented it. I made the complaint. My hands were cold. My voice wasn’t perfect. I still did it. I am proud of that. Because fear did not disappear before action. Action happened in spite of it. And that is the truest form of courage I know.
