Other VictoriesOvercoming Fear

I made the complaint because staying silent had started feeling more dangerous

Dear Delyara, I had spent too long absorbing the behaviour. The tone, the small humiliations, the careful workplace cruelties that were just vague enough to make me doubt my own right to call them what they were. I kept trying to survive by staying decent, calm, professional, and emotionally inexpensive. Then one day I realised silence was no longer protecting me. It was injuring me. So I documented it. I wrote it down. I made the complaint. My voice was not steady. I still spoke. The room did not collapse. The world did not end. And for the first time in months, I stopped participating in my own diminishment in the name of being agreeable. That is what felt victorious. Not courage without fear. Fear with a backbone.
