I Mended Something By Hand and Felt More Useful to Myself Than I Have in a Long Time

Dear Delyara, A button. Thread. Needle. Fifteen quiet minutes at the table. It was not artistic brilliance or grand creativity. It was simply handwork. Slow, precise, physical, requiring enough attention that my mind had to stop flying toward tomorrow and come back down into this one tiny task I could actually complete with my own fingers. The feeling afterwards surprised me. Not pride exactly. Satisfaction with edges. I think so much of my life now is emotionally untidy and practically ongoing. Very little arrives in the body as complete. To mend something cleanly — to watch it go from broken to repaired inside one sitting — felt disproportionately healing. I needed more of that than I knew. Completion in my hands. Not only in my imagination.
