I miss being able to hand the day to someone

Dear Delyara, I miss that ordinary end-of-day exchange where the life you just lived does not have to be fully translated because the other person was already somewhere inside its shape. The children, the timings, the little humiliations, the dumb practical moments, the joke, the irritations — all of it already has some shared context and can land somewhere warm without too much work. That’s what I miss some nights. Not marriage as an institution. The witness of it. The handover. The feeling that the whole day does not have to remain entirely mine by bedtime. That absence can feel very sharp in very quiet moments.
