I miss being emotionally met more than I miss being helped
Dear Delyara, Help matters. Bills matter. School runs matter. Shared effort matters. I know that. But what I ache for some days is not more practical contribution. It’s that feeling of being inwardly recognised while I’m speaking, before I have to explain myself into full existence. The sense that what I’m carrying has actually landed in another nervous system and not only been translated into logistics. I think that’s why some marriages feel lonely even when the house is still running. Two adults can collaborate all day and still leave each other emotionally underfed. Practical reliability is not the same as intimacy, and I don’t think we say that plainly enough. Some nights I would choose one true minute of being understood over an hour of competent domestic teamwork.
