The SilenceLoneliness
I miss being emotionally obvious to someone without needing a full explanation first
Dear Delyara, I miss someone who can tell the difference between my quiet because I am irritated, my quiet because I am low, my quiet because I need room, and my quiet because I want closeness but don’t have the energy to build the whole bridge to it. That kind of being-known feels rarer now than almost anything else in adult life. It isn’t that I expect mind-reading. It’s that I am tired of having to lay out the entire map of myself before warmth can arrive. Some forms of loneliness are not about emptiness. They are about the repeated labour of self-translation. That labour wears me down. Sometimes enough that I stop reaching.
