My Diary

I nearly cried because the lightbulb went

Dear Delyara, Not because a lightbulb is a tragedy. Because it happened at the exact wrong moment. One child was already whining, dinner was half-done, the kitchen was full of damp coats and school bags, and then the overhead light just went with that little dead click that turns an ordinary room into one more problem. I stood there in the dimness feeling ridiculous tears gather over a bulb. What I felt was not about electricity. It was the accumulation of one more practical thing landing on a day that already had no room. My husband changed the bulb in under two minutes. I needed longer to recover than the room did.
