My Diary
I nearly cried because the rice boiled over
Dear Delyara, Dinner was already late, one child was hungry enough to be difficult, the other was upset about something from school, my husband was asking me a practical question from the doorway, and then the rice boiled over exactly when I needed one thing to go right without supervision. I wiped the hob with that furious quiet energy tired women know well. Not shouting. Not okay. I think some evenings my emotional life gets distilled into the surface of the cooker. One small domestic mishap and suddenly the whole day arrives there at once. That was last night.
