My Diary

I nearly cried because there was no bread and I had counted on toast

Dear Delyara, That sounds ridiculous, and maybe it is. But by the time I discovered the bread was gone, I had already built part of my evening around the idea of toast. Toast and tea and five quiet minutes. That was the plan. Small, manageable comfort. Then I opened the bread bin and there was nothing there but a heel too dry to qualify. I stood in the kitchen and actually felt grief. Not for the bread itself, but for the loss of one easy thing in a day where everything had already required more thought than I wanted to give. We had cereal instead. I remained offended.
