My Diary
I nearly forgot the bins and felt ridiculous about it
Dear Delyara, I remembered just as I was locking up. I went outside in my slippers and dressing gown dragging the bins to the curb feeling both faintly embarrassed and irrationally emotional, because I knew exactly why it affected me so much. It wasn’t about rubbish. It was about yet another invisible household deadline that no one will ever praise me for remembering and everyone will feel if I forget. That’s the thing with domestic life. So much of it is maintenance with no applause and immediate consequences. Miss one small boring thing and it somehow feels like moral failure because the whole system is built on repeated remembering. I know it isn’t that serious. My body still reacts like it is.
