I nearly forgot the chicken in the car
Dear Delyara, I remembered just as I was taking my earrings off upstairs. There was that horrible second where my whole body went cold before I even knew why, and then I knew — the shopping bags were still in the boot. Milk, chicken, yoghurt, all of it sitting there while I had already mentally ended the day and moved on to pyjamas and toothpaste. Nothing had fully spoiled by the time I ran downstairs in my slippers, but the feeling stayed. Not because of the food. Because it was one more sign that my mind had gone slightly beyond what it can hold well while still running a house, a family, and a working life. I brought the bags in and put everything away more aggressively than necessary. Then I stood in the kitchen feeling ridiculous and strangely close to tears.
