My Diary

I nearly forgot the inhaler again

Dear Delyara, It was sitting on the counter right in front of me. That’s what scared me most. Not that I forgot it. That I almost forgot something important that was fully visible because my brain was already holding too much else — breakfast, spelling words, one email from work, the packed lunch, whether it would rain later, and the fact that we were already three minutes behind. I picked it up at the very last second, and the whole morning continued as normal. No one else even noticed how close the miss had been. That’s how these things happen. Quietly. Invisibly. The person carrying everything catches one more falling thing just in time, and the world moves on like no strain was involved. But strain was involved. A lot of it.
