My Diary
I nearly forgot the medicine on the counter
Dear Delyara, It was right there. That’s what frightened me. Sometimes I think the hardest part of mental overload is not forgetting something hidden. It’s nearly missing something visible because your brain is already carrying too much else to let the obvious land fully. The medicine sat in plain sight while I was doing breakfast, shoes, bags, weather, lunch, and the daily performance of making the house look less fragile than it feels before 8 a.m. I remembered at the door. I picked it up. Nobody else knew how close I came to failing that moment. That’s how so much of motherhood feels to me now: near misses that never become public because I catch them just in time, and then carry the private shock of it alone.
