My Diary
I nearly left the shopping in the car
Dear Delyara, I remembered while taking my earrings off upstairs. That drop in the stomach is awful every time. The way your whole body knows before your mind has caught up exactly what’s wrong. I stood there for half a second and then saw it clearly — milk, yoghurt, chicken, all still in the boot while I had already mentally finished the day and moved on to pyjamas. I ran downstairs in my socks, brought it all in, and then stood in the kitchen with cold food in my hands feeling stupidly fragile. Because it’s not the shopping. It’s the evidence. One more little sign that my brain is trying to run too many tabs at once and losing grip on the obvious.
