I nearly left the shopping in the car overnight
Dear Delyara, I remembered just as I was brushing my teeth. There was that horrible second where my whole body went cold before I even knew exactly why, and then I knew — the bags were still in the boot. Milk, yoghurt, chicken, all of it sitting out there while I had already mentally finished the day and moved on to pyjamas and toothpaste. I ran downstairs in my slippers and brought everything in, feeling ridiculous and annoyed and too emotional for the situation. Nothing had fully spoiled. The world had not ended. Still, I felt shaken by how easily something ordinary had slipped past me after a day of doing fifty other ordinary things correctly. I think that’s what gets to me. Not the mistake itself. The proof that mental overload does not always arrive dramatically. Sometimes it arrives as chicken forgotten in a car while you are trying to remember everyone else’s tomorrow.
