My Diary
I nearly missed the school gate pickup
Dear Delyara, I was in the kitchen, half-reading an email, half-thinking about dinner, when the time suddenly landed in my chest like a dropped object. I grabbed my keys and ran. I got there in time, but only just. My daughter was already scanning the line of parents with that searching face children have when they’re still confident you’ll come but not fully calm until they see you. The second she spotted me, she relaxed, and that little change in her face made me feel sick with guilt. I hate how close I came. Not because one late pickup defines me. Because I know how deeply children feel those few uncertain minutes. I smiled, took her hand, and acted normal. Inside, I was still shaking.
