My Diary

I nearly shouted over a missing water bottle

Dear Delyara, It was not about the bottle. It was the timing, the rush, the fact that we were already late, that I’d already answered six questions before 8 a.m., and that somehow I was still expected to know where everything was. When my daughter asked for the third time if I had seen it, I could feel the answer rising in me sharper than it deserved. I didn’t shout. I got quiet instead, which is not always better. We found it in the car. Of course we did. Then everyone moved on as if it had only ever been about a bottle. I didn’t move on as quickly. I kept thinking how little space there was between tiredness and unfairness in me this morning.
