My Diary
I nearly started crying because the wrapping paper had run out halfway
Dear Delyara, It was for a child’s birthday party. Not even my child’s. One of those school parties where attendance is social diplomacy and the present itself must somehow communicate both kindness and competence while being wrapped on a Wednesday evening when you are already tired enough to resent tape. Halfway through, the paper ran out. Not enough to improvise elegantly, not enough to finish properly. I just stood there with scissors in one hand and the half-wrapped gift in the other and felt absurdly close to tears. Not over paper. Over the finalness of small frustrations when the rest of you is already worn thin. I found another roll in the cupboard. Of course I did. But my mood never fully recovered.
