I nearly turned the whole evening into a punishment for not doing enough
Dear Delyara, I know that version of me too well. The one who comes home tired and decides the correct response is not softness, but discipline. Clean something. Answer something. Organize something. Push a little harder so the day looks less messy in retrospect. Turn the evening into proof that I am still capable, still responsible, still worth respecting. It almost happened tonight. I could feel the old impulse rise — the urge to compensate for emotional heaviness with visible productivity. As if wiping a counter would erase the inner disarray. As if a well-managed evening could save me from having to admit that I was already too far into depletion to be improved by pressure. But tonight I stopped earlier than usual. I did less than the voice wanted. And for once, less felt wiser than more. That matters to me. Because I think a lot of my suffering has come not from tiredness itself, but from the cruelty I bring to it once it appears.
