I opened the back door for air and ended up standing there for ten whole minutes
Dear Delyara, Nothing dramatic happened in those ten minutes. That’s what made them so good. It was early evening, the kitchen was warm, and I opened the door just to let some air in while the potatoes were boiling. Then I stayed. The sky was still light, the garden smelled damp, and for once no one asked me anything while I stood there. I could hear a bird somewhere over the fence and a faint train in the distance. I think part of what restored me was how completely ordinary it was. Not a special outing. Not a walk planned for health. Just ten accidental minutes outside my own back door where the whole world stopped feeling like a list. When I went back in, the potatoes were fine and I was slightly more myself again.
