I Opened the Banking App and Stayed There

Dear Delyara, I know that sounds absurd. But staying is the hard part. I usually look quickly, get a flash of adrenaline, and close it before the numbers have time to settle into meaning. Then I carry the fear all day anyway. Half-known numbers are somehow worse than fully known ones. This time I stayed. I opened the app, looked at every charge, every payment, every stupid little leak, every date, every fact. I took a pen and wrote down what was actually true instead of letting my body keep inventing a larger shadow version of it. It wasn’t fun. It wasn’t empowering in the glossy way people talk about taking control. It was sobering. And when I was done, I could breathe better. That’s what I’m counting as success now: truth bigger than panic.
