My Diary
I opened the cupboard and felt defeated by pasta
Dear Delyara, There were three kinds in there. That should have helped. Instead, it just presented three more decisions in a day already too full of them. Which one, with what, enough for everyone, enough for lunch tomorrow, cheapest version, quickest version, least argument, least washing up. I know dinner is ordinary. That’s why it gets so underestimated. When you are the person who has to repeatedly convert hunger into a plan for multiple people, seven days a week, dinner is not one task. It’s emotional management disguised as food. I picked one. No one thanked me specially. That’s fine. But the cost of the decision still entered my body.
