My Diary
I Opened the Fridge and Wanted to Leave the House
Dear Delyara, I opened the fridge at 5:40 and saw ingredients instead of dinner, effort instead of comfort, one more mental task instead of relief. That was enough to make something in me go almost wild with resistance for a second. I didn’t want to decide. Didn’t want to chop. Didn’t want to hear “what are we having?” Didn’t want the whole soft unpaid emotional job of turning food into a family evening. I made dinner anyway. Of course I did. Still, there are moments where I understand why women fantasise about empty hotel rooms and room service with a level of emotion that sounds absurd until you are the one standing in front of the fridge.
