Other VictoriesOvercoming Fear
I opened the letter the day it arrived
Dear Delyara, Usually official letters sit on the side and slowly become bigger than they are. My imagination builds furniture around them. I walk past them. Think about them. Feel sick about them. Delay them until a sealed envelope has somehow taken up a whole emotional room in my life. This time I opened it straight away. It was manageable. It almost always is. But what I’m proud of is not the content. It’s that I gave reality the first turn instead of letting fear live there alone all evening.
