I opened the statement in daylight, not dread

Dear Delyara, That may sound simple. It wasn’t. I didn’t wait until late, half-panicked, vaguely self-punishing, already emotionally braced for shame. I opened it in daylight, with enough steadiness left in me to remain a person while reading it. That alone changed the experience. I think context matters more than I give it credit for. The same fact lands differently when I meet it from dignity instead of fatigue. This week, I did that.
