I painted badly for an hour and felt more alive than I have in weeks
Dear Delyara, The painting itself was not the victory. It was awkward. Uneven. The colours went muddy in places. My hand didn’t feel like it used to. I had not done it in years, and for the first ten minutes I felt almost foolish, like I was meeting a former version of myself in a room that no longer entirely belonged to me. Then something opened. For an hour I was not useful. Not solving. Not managing. Not earning. Not translating anyone’s mood into family safety. I was making. That changed the whole emotional weather of the evening. I had forgotten how much my spirit misses doing something that does not belong to necessity.
