I passed the exam I had nearly convinced myself I was too old, too tired, and too interrupted to sit

Dear Delyara, The lies we tell ourselves late in life sound very sensible. It’s not fear, we say. It’s realism. It’s not shame. It’s timing. It’s not self-doubt. It’s just knowing what life is really like. That was the language in my head before the exam. Children, work, money, poor sleep, age, brain fog, embarrassment, all of it trying to turn fear into a respectable argument for not even trying. I sat the exam anyway. I passed anyway. That matters because it gave me something very rare and very powerful: evidence against a story I had been living inside for years. Proof changes things. Especially when the old story has had authority for too long.
