I pressed play on the voicemail instead of letting it become a private monster

Dear Delyara, That may sound ridiculous, but I know I’m not the only person who has turned a voicemail into a whole emotional event before hearing it. I saw the notification in the afternoon and immediately started building possibilities around it. By evening, I had almost convinced myself it contained something complicated, awkward, or expensive. Then I got tired of my own imagination and played it. It was the dentist confirming an appointment. I laughed at myself properly then, but I also felt proud. Not because the message was harmless. Because I interrupted the old pattern where fear gets longer to speak than reality does.
