My Diary

I put my keys in the fridge for a moment

Dear Delyara, Not for long. Long enough to catch myself and laugh. I had opened the fridge to put milk away, heard somebody calling from upstairs, had the dog weaving around my ankles, and in one strange tired movement I nearly placed my keys on the shelf beside the butter. I stood there with them in my hand and thought, yes, this is the level we’re at. It’s odd how much comfort there is in catching your own mind being overwhelmed in such an ordinary, ridiculous way. It turns something vague into something visible. A small piece of proof that the day has indeed gone too far into you. I think I needed that proof tonight. Without it, I might have gone on pretending I was still functioning beautifully.
