My Diary
I put the bins out in my slippers and felt strangely peaceful for two minutes
Dear Delyara, The street was quiet. The air was cold. No one was talking to me. No one needed anything. The bin wheels made that steady clattering sound on the pavement, and for those two minutes the task was so simple that it almost felt kind. No emotional translation. No layers. No hidden meaning. Just take the bin out. I think part of what I found peaceful was that the job ended where it ended. There was no follow-up question, no next emotional step, no one else’s mood attached to it. Some tasks are a relief simply because they remain themselves all the way through. That’s probably why I stood there a few seconds longer than necessary at the gate before going back inside.
