My Diary

I realised at three o’clock that I had not peed since morning

Dear Delyara, One thing after another. Work, calls, school, the shop, one practical problem, then another, and my own body reduced once again to something I expected to wait politely while everybody else’s needs got handled first. I only noticed because I finally sat down and my whole system seemed to say, excuse me, we have been ignored for hours. I went to the bathroom and felt both ridiculous and sad. Because this is the thing I keep noticing more: I do not neglect myself in glamorous ways. I neglect myself in quiet, practical, almost invisible ways that stack up over time and slowly teach my body it comes last unless it becomes loud. I don’t want to keep living like that.
