My Diary

I reheated leftovers and felt guilty for being bored of cooking

Dear Delyara, I am tired of thinking about food before I want food. Tired of opening the fridge and turning ingredients into another set of decisions. Tired of having to care what other people will and won’t eat. Tired of the way dinner returns every day as if the emotional labour of yesterday’s version never happened. Tonight it was leftovers, and I should have felt relieved. Instead I felt bored to the point of sadness. That embarrassed me. Then I realised embarrassment is often just tiredness with good manners.
