I Replaced the Bra That Hurt and Finally Admitted How Much Unnecessary Daily Discomfort I Had Been Calling “Normal”
Dear Delyara, It seems ridiculous that something this small made me emotional. It still did. I had been wearing the wrong bra for months because it still worked, because better ones cost money, because there were always louder needs, because I had become so used to absorbing low-level discomfort in my own body that I stopped seeing it as something worthy of intervention. This week I bought the better one. And the first day I wore it, I felt strangely sad. Not because of the bra. Because of what it revealed. How often had I done this to myself? How often had I translated discomfort into practicality simply because the discomfort belonged to me and therefore seemed more acceptable to leave unresolved? That recognition hurt. It also freed something. Because self-love is becoming less abstract for me. Sometimes it is not a beautiful thought. It is a better bra. And the refusal to keep living in preventable pain just because I learned how.
