I reported the bullying at work
Dear Delyara, For months I told myself I was being too sensitive. That’s one of the ways bullying survives, I think — the target spends so much time checking whether they’re exaggerating that the behaviour gets longer to settle into the building. Comments in meetings. Jokes at my expense. Being left out of emails I should have been copied into. That look people get when they’ve all heard something about you before you enter the room. I kept trying to outwork it. Be calmer, nicer, less reactive, more useful. It didn’t help. Last Tuesday I printed everything, booked the meeting with HR, and said it all plainly. My hands were shaking, but my voice stayed steady. I don’t know yet what the long-term result will be. But I do know that I stopped collaborating with my own silencing. That feels like a victory already.
