I resigned from the job that was teaching me to hate myself
Dear Delyara, I didn’t leave with fireworks. I handed in the letter in a normal voice on a normal morning and then went to the toilet and shook for ten minutes because my body knew something my mouth had not fully caught up to yet: I had finally stopped offering my life to a place that was breaking me in slow professional ways. The job paid. That’s what kept me there. But it was also shrinking me. The disrespect, the impossible workload, the quiet bullying dressed up as standards, the way I started waking up dreading not only the building but the person I was becoming inside it. I stayed too long because I was frightened. Of money. Of regret. Of looking irresponsible. Of not finding something else fast enough. All of that fear stayed true right up until the moment I left. And I left anyway. That is the victory. Not certainty. Not perfect timing. A woman being scared and finally refusing to build her entire adult life around a place that profits from her silence.
